Mind Mapping

This exercise will help unpack the various components of your project or idea you have for your website. You should think of this experience not as one monolithic thing, but something that can be broken down into multiple parts. Mind mapping should help you do this.

  • Take out your preferred markers/pens/color pencils and a blank sheet of paper or log in to your favorite mind mapping software.
  • At the center of the paper or screen, write the word that best represents the content/goal for the website you are thinking of making for this class.
  • Now, use the rest of the paper/screen to draw a mind map that includes all possible aspects of content you might explore or display on your site. Make sure your mind map has at least 5 nodes in addition to the center node.
  • Take a picture of your mind map or export it from the software you are using.
  • Submit the picture of your mind map through the exercise upload.

My favorite exercise was the mind maps that we did to help generate ideas because it really made me think deep about what I care about and what I’m confident in talking about for my website.

The [mind] map really helped me organize my thoughts before diving into WordPress.

The initial mind map was the most helpful to help gather thoughts and brainstorm.

I like writing out my ideas, it helps me stay organized.

The mind map helps me visualize a project/presentation in a non–traditional way.
