This section should be no more than 200 words and should include biographical information about yourself. Some guidelines:

  • Curate your biographical information. What does it make sense to include? What about yourself is it important for a visitor to your website to know? What would interest them? What would make them trust you?
  • Avoid “time relative” references. Don’t say, “I’m a senior at Wesleyan.” As, “I’m a Class of 2020 graduate.” The latter remains true a year or five years from the now. The former does not.
  • Consider your voice. How professional or formal do you want this statement to sound? Should it be in the first or third person?
  • Perhaps include a visual. This is an obvious place to display a photograph if yourself. If you do, again: act as curator. What image of yourself makes sense, given the goals you have for your website and your expected audience?

This section should be no more than 300 words and should include information about your website. Some guidelines:

  • State the website’s goal, content, and audience. What is your website for? How can it serve someone’s interests or needs?
  • Answer anticipated questions before they are asked. Imagine what your website visitors might be most confused about. Use this space to settle this confusion.
  • Format this section to highlight specific elements. Use sub-headings and bullets to draw the visitor’s attention.

Each of your remaining content items are up to you. They are completely determined by the goal, content, and content of your website. Some guidelines:

  • These are content items that you will write. They should be somewhere between 300 and 600 words.
  • When appropriate, supplement these items with media. Think about what images, diagrams, documents, audio and video will support the text that you have written.
  • These items should have been listed in your creative brief. Use your creative brief as a guide for what you write about. At the same time, it is okay to change your mind!
